Racial Profile 'Em For Me!

A new poll is out:
But even if most Canadians seem unconcerned about their personal safety, a large majority (70 per cent) think travellers should stop complaining about the inconvenience created by the carry-on baggage restrictions added last month after the arrests of 17 airline bombing suspects in Britain.

And slightly more than two in five Canadians believe racial profiling -- security screening based on a person's appearance, ethnicity or citizenship -- should be used in the fight against terrorism.

While that number might appear tame compared to the big majority in favour of tight airport security, the poll suggests that only 34 per cent actually oppose racial profiling on moral grounds. Another 17 per cent oppose the idea because they don't think it works.

Right. So what's the point?

Well, if this poll is any indication, roughly 50% of Canadians are serious enough about terrorism that they want to do the right things. In this case racial profiling.

Maybe Canadians are coming to their senses...
